Why we really need to do performance testing....

Best Practices Performance
As I mentioned there are probably a jillion reasons why people performance test and they are all probably pretty good ones. But, I think that doing performance testing can and should have a much simpler motivation - not ROI or business readiness or even customer satisfaction. No, I think that the real reason for doing performance testing is that it just makes sense. Really, it just makes sense to do it and keep on doing it every time we build onto existing software, fix broken software or build new from scratch. I like to make things, guitars, tube amplifiers speakers.... I would not consider any build successfull unless I knew something about it's capabilities, robustness, outer performance limits. I wouldn't feel safe connecting it to electricity without some sort of performance test of these sorts of factors. So why would I not want to see performance testing in instances where users are having software, for want of a better word, "inflicted" upon them? The fact is I wouldn't because I would hate it someone did that to me and I would never do that to myself. All of the other reasons are good ones but they are really just justifying in the hopes that someone will let us do the testing so we can sleep at night or stop asking questions. Something to think about. I wonder....
