Turner Broadcasting Systems, Inc.

QA Manager

I've been testing software for 13 years. Currently I'm learning how to juggle testing and managing/coaching other testers on my team. I entered the IT industry through a unique path. My first post college job was teaching public software courses to business professionals, eventually specializing in Visual Basic for Applications. Next, I took a job for Lucent Technologies teaching AutoCAD to the telephone office engineers. A development team building a custom application integrated with AutoCAD needed testers and I was a natural fit. After being talked into testing a web/mobile sales application for a former colleague, I finally got an exciting software testing position at Turner Broadcasting. I became a test lead, testing Turner’s new traffic system that currently schedules all content, including commercials, on Turner’s domestic networks. My current position as QA manager is challenging me to coach other testers, continue to grow my own test skills, and take a greater responsibility in helping Turner deliver the best tools to our sales and network operations teams. Specialties I follow the Context-Driven school of software testing. Completed James Bach and Michael Bolton's Rapid Software Testing course. Perform Data Warehouse testing (including writing automated tests) Wrote an automated test framework for a reporting portal website. Managing other software testers (both automation engineers and testers) Functional testing of .NET Winform and Silverlight applications. Speaking and blogging about testing.

As testers, we ask ourselves lots of questions: What is the best test I can execute right now? What is my test approach going to be? Is that a bug? Am I done yet?
