Test and QA
I generally take an analytical approach to testing. I evaluate the system under test and its requirements, develop an overall test strategy, then generate a set of test cases that fully exercise the system's functional, non-functional and performance requirements. I also use ad hoc and exploratory testing when it's appropriate. Together, those testing methodologies have served me well.

Software
Testing software for a living is challenging. The habits and traits that make a good tester are well known: the mind of a detective; good attention to detail; tenacity; skepticism; a passion for analysis; curiousity; enjoying seeing things break; understanding how software is designed and coded; etc. Unfortunately, the better you are at testing, the more likely it is you’ll have to deal with the politics and inter-personal issues that arise from being the bearer of bad news.
