Quality in the Cloud: The new Role of TestOps

Tuesday March 13th 8am 4 0 Comments Test and QA Cloud Software Test Professionals Conference
The term "TestOps" is a new one, but it encapsulates a new way of thinking about how we test and ensure quality of cloud services. It is a portmanteau of "Test" and "Ops", so let's start with "Test", a term I expect this readership to know all about but will briefly define here for clarity. When we test we apply a series of actions on the system and check for respective expected results, so as to assess the soundness of the system for use by our customers -- or looked at the other way, the risk of exposing the system to end users.

Ditch the Requirements - Focus on the Customer Instead

Thursday February 10th 2011 10am 6 3 Comments Best Practices End to End Development Project Management Quality Assurance Requirements Agile Software Testing Software Test Professionals Conference
Quality can be defined as meeting the customers' needs. Juran posted this definition in 1988, defining quality as "fitness for use". Testers like this definition as it gives them a "north star" to guide their actions and it reinforces a role that most testers relish, that of customer advocate. However Crosby's older definition of quality as "conformance to requirements" still holds strong sway, and many test processes are guided by test cases correlated directly to requirements.
