In response to this challenge, testers are turning to industry certifications or formal school training to help improve their skills. This does not always pay off in the end, especially with increased criticism around tester certifications undermining the testing discipline. This article outlines alternatives to getting certifications in order to make the next step, as there are proven ways to learn that don’t require an enormous outlay of money or time. This view is not anti-certification, but rather pro-mentoring and self-study/self-challenge.
